Saturday, May 23, 2026, Omari Tau will lead a public reading of Thomas' National Book Award winner Marked by Fire at Sacramento, CA's Underground Books, a bookstore dedicated to the promotion of Black literature and artists. The event will feature various members of the Sacramento community.

Searching for Joyce Carol Thomas
Join Omari Tau at Amatoria Fine Art Books in Sacramento, CA as he shares stories from his Fall 2025 sabbatical work to restore the online legacy and promotion of Thomas and her more than 30 books of poetry, picture books, novels, and plays. Tau will read from Thomas’ poems, excerpts from her novels, and share stories about her life and career.
